The renderings presented on this page are to illustrate general concepts. Once an Option is selected, detailed design will take into account how to enter/exit the bicycle facilities, bike rack locations, crosswalk enhancements, streetscape elements, etc. The feedback we are asking for here is related to the overall corridor configuration. Additional public feedback will be solicited during design for specific gap/intersection treatments, material selections, etc., as necessary.
Option 1
West 65th to West 44th
Multi-use Path
West 44th to West 20th
Cycle Track
Option 1 consists of a sidewalk-level Multi-use Path from West 65th Street to West 44th Street and a sidewalk-level Cycle Track from West 44th Street to West 20th Street. This alternative includes the following features:

-
From West 65th Street to West 44th Street a sidewalk-level Multi-use Path will be installed. The Multi-use Path will be a minimum of 15' wide and accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists. The 15' wide design can allow for a separate cycling zone to be marked with pavers, paint, signs or other means. Cyclists are encouraged to use this cycling zone, but they should expect pedestrian encroachments. The Multi-use Path option provides space for various street amenities along the corridor which can be incorporated into the buffer/amenity strip.
-
From West 44th Street to West 20th Street a sidewalk-level Cycle Track will be installed. The Cycle Track will be a minimum of 10' wide and will accommodate two-way bicycle traffic. Pedestrians will not be permitted to use the Cycle Track and a 7' wide sidewalk will be provided adjacent to the Cycle Track for pedestrians walking the corridor.
-
The sidewalk level Multi-use Path will begin at West 61st Street connecting directly to the West 65th/Lorain GCRTA Station and Zone Recreation multi-use path. The sidewalk-level Cycle Track will end at West 20th Street where it will connect directly to the multi-use path on the Lorain/Carnegie bridge. The entry and exit points of the bicycle facilities, as well as any gaps and transitions in the system (at bridges and intersections), will be closely evaluated during design.
-
Lorain Avenue will be reduced to a single lane in each direction with left turn lanes provided at signalized intersections and parking provided along the north side of the street as available.
-
The implementation of this alternative will include the complete reconstruction (all new pavement) of the roadway and multiple utility relocations.

West 44th to West 20th
Cycle Track
Option 2 consists of Bike Lanes from West 65th Street to West 44th Street and a sidewalk-level Cycle Track from West 44th Street to West 20th Street. This alternative includes the following features:

-
From West 65th Street to West 44th Street on-street Bike Lanes will be provided in both directions. Typically the Bike Lanes will will be 7' wide and will be adjacent to the vehicular travel lanes along Lorain Avenue. The Bike Lanes will be buffered from on-street parking lanes to minimize accidents between cyclists and people accessing parked vehicles.
-
From West 44th Street to West 20th Street a sidewalk-level Cycle Track will be installed. The Cycle Track will be a minimum of 10' wide and will accommodate two-way bicycle traffic. Pedestrians will not be permitted to use the Cycle Track and a 7' wide sidewalk will be provided adjacent to the Cycle Track for pedestrians walking the corridor.
-
The bike lanes will start at West 65th Street, continuing the bike lanes that are already in place along Lorain Avenue to the West. The sidewalk-level Cycle Track will end at West 20th Street where it will connect directly to the multi-use path on the Lorain/Carnegie bridge. The entry and exit points of the bicycle facilities, as well as any gaps and transitions in the bike system (at bridges and intersections), will be closely evaluated during design.
